In 2021 APS Bank plc passed use of its former main office premises on St Paul Street, Valletta to Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti (FPM) for the historic palazzo to be transformed into a state-of-the-art gallery. This space will house a permanent exhibition of Victor Pasmore’s works, along with other temporary exhibitions showcasing Maltese art and heritage.
The inaugural exhibition titled ‘In Search of Line’ opened on 30 September 2023 and runs until 14 January 2024. This exhibition explores the concept of ‘line’, one of art history’s most profound themes which is explored in various contexts, from drawing to weaving, writing, mark-making, singing, and storytelling. ‘In Search of Line’ dissects the core elements of the line and investigates the artist’s pursuit of creating and conveying images, meanings, and emotions through this fundamental element. Drawing from both public and private collections spanning millennia, the exhibition features works by Victor Pasmore himself, and prominent figures from Malta’s 20th-century art scene, including Josef Kalleya, Gabriel Caruana, Alfred Chircop, Emvin Cremona, and Tony Pace.
Rachael Blackburn, Head of Culture at APS Bank and a member of FPM’s Supervisory Council, stated, “APS Bank takes immense pride in providing one of its most distinguished buildings for the further promotion of Malta’s rich artistic legacy. This collaboration with FPM marks a significant step towards recognising and celebrating Malta’s artistic and cultural heritage.”
