On 11 November 2024, APS Bank colleagues completed the Sicily Cycling Challenge 2024, an adventurous three-day event across 298 kilometres to raise funds for the APS Provident Fund. Despite challenging weather, rough terrains, and even navigating flooded streets, the team persevered, demonstrating resilience and camaraderie.
This year’s team was made up of Gilbert Caruana, Head of Finance, Giovanni Bartolotta, Chief Risk Officer, Marvin Farrugia, head of Asset Liability Management and Noel McCarthy, Chief Investment Officer, accompanied by a fellow cyclist. Starting from Pozzallo and passing through Catania, Messina, and Taormina, the cycling team experienced intense rain, muddy roads, and a decision to alter their final day’s route for safety. In total, the event raised €2,144 in cash and €10,224 in donated vacation leave from senior management, benefiting colleagues and dependents facing difficult circumstances.
The APS Provident Fund has already provided €9,000 this year to support APS Bank colleagues in need, highlighting the importance of such initiatives.
Reflecting on the challenge, Gilbert Caruana, Head of Finance, commented: “This was a true testament to our teamwork and commitment to helping others with authenticity. Despite the hurdles, we achieved our primary goal: supporting our colleagues during tough times. We look forward to the next challenge.”
