The 2023 edition of the APS Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale was recently launched at the Mdina Cathedral Museum. The exhibition, created under the artistic direction of Prof Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci, revolves around the theme of ‘Mediterranean Goddesses.’ It delves into ideas about spirituality and fertility, demonstrating how connecting with divine concepts can provide a strong aesthetic response to the political and climatic issues of our age. It explores notions of the Mediterranean conveyed through art, engaging in artistic conversations about the ongoing environmental crisis by contemporary artists from Malta and around the world.
The launch event was attended by a large crowd of distinguished guests and was followed by private viewings of the exhibits. Short speeches were delivered by Msgr. Rev. Dr Edgar Vella (Chairman of the Management Board and Curator of the Mdina Cathedral Museum), Prof. Schembri Bonaci, Marcel Cassar (CEO, APS Bank plc) and Mgr Rev. Dr. Joseph Bajada (President of the Metropolitan Chapter).
The exhibition is open to the public until 15 December 2023. For more information, please visit mdinabiennale.com
