APS Bank joins Malta in mourning the passing of Monsignor Victor Grech, a leading figure in social work and charity. A lifelong advocate for the vulnerable, Dun Victor, as he was affectionately known, dedicated his career to supporting those in need, particularly through his work with Caritas Malta.

Born in Cospicua in 1929, he was ordained a priest in 1956 and spent decades shaping the Church’s role in social welfare. He was Rector of the Archbishop’s Seminary between 1963 and 1977, when he was appointed to found Caritas Malta which he directed until 2014. Dun Victor played a key role in setting up support services for people struggling with addiction, opening residential centres, and leading prevention programmes in schools. His influence extended beyond Malta, serving on the executive boards of Caritas Europa and Caritas Internationalis.

Through his extensive broadcasting, counselling, writing and teaching, Dun Victor became a trusted voice in Maltese society, raising awareness about social issues and providing guidance to those in need. His contributions were widely recognised, earning him the European Citizen’s Award and national honours.

APS Bank CEO Marcel Cassar commented: "Monsignor Grech was a pillar of community service, and his leadership over decades was central to Caritas Malta’s growth and impact. But for many priests and generations of students, including me, Dun Victor was the father who gave his life to our formation, education and upbringing. His unwavering dedication has left a lasting mark, and APS Bank is proud to support initiatives, such as Caritas, that align with his vision for a more caring society.”
